The course covers the basics and principles of dental radiography, understanding the importance of dental radiographs, different types of dental radiographs, legal and ethical issues, radiography equipment, x-ray tubes, image receptors, darkroom processing, radiography techniques, positioning techniques, advanced techniques such as CBCT, patient management and protection, image analysis and interpretation, identifying anatomical structures, radiographic appearances of dental diseases, errors in dental radiography, case study discussions, reflective practice, recent advances in radiographic equipment and techniques, quality assurance and improvement, future trends and innovations in dental radiography.

Course Outline

Section 1

Section 1 of the course covers the basics and principles of dental radiography, the different types of dental radiographs available, legal and ethical issues in dental radiography, and an exercise on ethical scenario analysis. It also covers radiography equipment, including an overview of radiographic units, x-ray tubes, image receptors, and darkroom equipment. Radiography techniques are discussed, including positioning techniques, different types of radiographs, advanced techniques such as CBCT, and patient management and protection during radiography. Image analysis and interpretation are covered, including basic principles of image analysis, identifying anatomical structures, radiographic appearances of dental diseases, and solutions for errors in dental radiography. Finally, the section concludes with a discussion on reflective practice in dental radiography, recent advances in radiographic equipment and techniques, quality assurance and improvement, and the future of dental radiography.
