The first section of this course covers understanding safeguarding and child protection in dental practice, including the impact of oral health on overall well-being, legal and ethical obligations, and recognising signs of abuse or neglect.

Section 2

Section 2 of the course covers adolescent oral health concerns, engaging with children and young people in dental practice, preventive care and education, and taking a holistic approach to safeguarding children’s oral health. Topics include the importance of primary teeth, common oral health problems in teenagers, effective communication strategies, oral health education for children and parents, and promoting oral health in schools and the community. The section also covers the role of fluoride and sealants in dental decay prevention, nutritional advice for improving oral health, and working with allied health practitioners for child safeguarding.

Section 3

Section 3 of this course covers topics such as understanding the concept of child safeguarding in dental practice, recognizing signs of child abuse or neglect, creating a child-friendly dental environment, handling fear and anxiety in children during dental visits, and implementing preventive oral health measures.
